Personal Training in Manassas, VA: How a Marine Passed His PFT After a Broken Hand

personal training military

If you are looking for personal training in Manassas, VA, it helps to see what six months of it actually does. Winston C. came to Unleash’d Strength as a Marine with a hand he had broken and a Physical Fitness Test he had to pass. He crushed it. Here are his real numbers.

Why he started personal training in Manassas

Winston needed to get his three mile run time down, his pullups up, and his plank hold longer, all while coming back from a broken hand. He had his own list too: get leaner, get stronger, and put two plates on the bench. That is 225 pounds, the number almost every lifter wants and most never write down.

He was paired with Coach Christian and started personal training in Manassas two sessions per week. Not six days a week. Two.

Six months later

  • Pullups: 4 to 22. The biggest jump, and the one that carries the PFT score.
  • Bench: 225 for 2 reps. Two plates, exactly what he asked for on day one.
  • Three mile run: 26:51, and he was jogging it. He had already banked enough points on the rest of the test that he did not need to empty the tank.
  • Plank: over 2 minutes holding added weight.
  • Body composition: the scale barely moved, but he is visibly leaner and carrying more muscle.

In his words: “Loving it. Christian is phenomenal. Love the gym, it’s my decompression time. Christian is very engaged and excited, very responsible. Super happy with it, nothing but good things.”

What his training week looked like

Two one hour sessions with the same coach, every week. Christian wrote the program, watched every set, and adjusted when something hurt or something stalled. Between sessions Winston had simple homework: run work and a few accessory lifts he could knock out on his own with 24/7 keyfob access.

Nothing exotic. It worked because the plan matched the test. Pullups were trained in volume instead of maxed out once a month. The run was built up gradually so the hand and the rest of him stayed healthy. The bench got a real progression instead of a guess.

Coming back from an injury without losing the deadline

A broken hand takes pressing, pulling and most grip work off the table for a while. The instinct is to wait until it is fully healed and then panic train. That is how people get hurt twice. We trained everything that was available, kept conditioning going, and loaded the hand-dependent lifts back in only as fast as it tolerated.

That approach is boring, and it is what the research backs. The American College of Sports Medicine recommends strength work at least twice a week, and the CDC adult activity guidelines say the same thing in plainer language. Twice a week with a coach is not a compromise, it is the dose.

Who this is for

Winston is a Marine, but personal training in Manassas is not a military-only thing. If any of these sound like you, the same setup works:

  • You have a test, a tryout, an academy date or a physical on the calendar.
  • You are coming back from an injury and do not trust yourself to train around it.
  • You have lifted before, stalled out, and want someone to tell you what to do on which day.
  • You want one specific number, like 225 on bench or 20 pullups, and you are tired of circling it.

Questions we get about personal training in Manassas

How fast should I expect results?

Winston went from 4 to 22 pullups in six months at two sessions a week. Most people feel stronger and move better in 4 to 6 weeks, and see the numbers move by month three.

Do I need to be in shape before I start?

No. Winston started while recovering from a broken hand. A coach builds around what your body can do today, which is the difference between real coaching and a generic app program.

Is twice a week really enough?

For most people, yes, as long as you do the easy work on your own days. Your keyfob gets you in 24/7, so scheduling is never the excuse.

Can you train me for a PFT, ACFT, or a police or fire test?

Yes. Bring the scoring standards and the test date and we build the program backwards from it.
