As the owner of Unleash’d Strength Gym in Manassas, Virginia, I’ve had my fair share of interesting encounters — but one visit in particular left an impression I won’t forget.

A woman walked in, took one look around, and started listing everything she didn’t like.
“It’s too masculine.”
“This place feels intimidating.”
“Where’s the color?”
“This just isn’t for me.”
I gave her my best — I shared how our space was designed to be supportive and empowering. I explained how we’ve helped people of all ages, backgrounds, and experience levels reach their goals here. I tried to show her that behind the iron and chalk was a welcoming, tight-knit community.
But she wasn’t interested.
The truth is, she had already made up her mind before she walked through the door.
And so — I let her go.
The Reality of Rejection
If you run a business — or even just put yourself out there creatively or personally — rejection is part of the game. It stings, especially in the beginning. You take it personally. You feel misunderstood, unseen, maybe even a little insulted.
But over time, you learn one of the most important lessons in business and in life:
Not everyone is going to want what you have to offer — and that’s okay.
It’s not your job to convince every single person to like you, buy from you, follow you, or support you. In fact, trying to do so is a surefire way to burn yourself out and lose your identity in the process.
Gary Vee Said It Best: Don’t Sell to the Unsellable
There’s a quote from Gary Vaynerchuk that’s always stuck with me:
“Don’t sell to the unsellable.”
When I heard that, something clicked. And when that woman walked into Unleash’d Strength Gym and immediately turned her nose up at everything we stand for, I finally understood it.
There are people out there who have already decided they’re not interested in what you do, how you do it, or who you are — no matter how great your intentions, your experience, or your results.
You could bend over backwards trying to prove yourself to them… and it still wouldn’t be enough.
This Isn’t Just a Business Lesson — It’s a Life Lesson
What started as a lesson in gym ownership quickly turned into something bigger.
Because this doesn’t just apply to selling gym memberships in Manassas.
It applies to relationships.
Friendships.
Social circles.
And even family dynamics.
How many times have we exhausted ourselves trying to prove we’re worth someone’s time, respect, or attention?
How often do we contort ourselves, soften our edges, or hold back just to fit into a version of someone else’s expectations?
The truth is: that’s not growth — that’s performance. And it’s a performance that always leaves you feeling drained.
Keep Growing, But Stop Proving
Let me be clear: I’m not saying you should stop improving.
If anything, continuous growth is one of the values we live by at Unleash’d Strength Gym.
But there’s a difference between getting better for your own fulfillment… and desperately changing just to win over people who were never your audience in the first place.
Growth is internal.
Approval is external.
Focus on the first — and the right people will start showing up.
Find the People Looking for You
There are people out there who are already looking for what you offer — they just haven’t found you yet.
At Unleash’d Strength Gym, we’ve built something for those people.
The ones who are tired of fluff and want something real.
The ones who crave a supportive but serious training environment.
The ones who might not feel “at home” in a corporate fitness chain — but know they belong somewhere.
If you’re in Manassas or the surrounding Northern Virginia area, and you’re ready to train hard, laugh loud, and grow stronger — physically and mentally — we’d love to meet you. You can schedule a free intro here! Need proof of what we have going on here? Just check out Google Reviews!
We’re not for everyone.
But maybe… we’re exactly what you’ve been looking for.
